Dr Michael Iskander is a specialist anaesthetist dedicated to keeping you safe, comfortable and cared for throughout your operation.

He gained broad experience working across many of Sydney’s major hospitals, including St George, Prince of Wales, Sydney Children’s, Bankstown and Sutherland. He then completed a fellowship at Liverpool Hospital focused on cardiothoracic anaesthesia and perfusion, caring for patients undergoing open-heart and complex lung surgery. He also holds advanced certification in perioperative echocardiography from the National Board of Echocardiography in the United States, further strengthening his expertise in complex heart and lung care.

In addition to anaesthesia, Dr Iskander is also a qualified medical perfusionist, having completed the Medical Perfusion course at the University of Melbourne. A medical perfusionist is trained to operate the heart–lung bypass machine during cardiac surgery and to support patients requiring ECMO.

His practice also includes caring for patients in the cardiac catheterisation laboratory, providing anaesthesia for advanced structural heart procedures such as TAVI and MitraClip. In addition, he provides anaesthesia for orthopaedics, obstetrics, endoscopy and a wide range of general surgical specialties.

He currently works at St George and Royal Prince Alfred Public Hospitals, as well as St George Private, Hurstville Private and other private hospitals across Sydney.

Outside the operating theatre, Dr Iskander enjoys travelling and exploring Sydney’s food and coffee culture with his wife and three children, as well as spending time together at church.
